Connection

The CDC has identified loneliness as a public health crisis. We have more methods to connect with others now than we have had in all of history, yet humans are lonely. As a long-time educator and administrator in the public school system, I have witnessed many changes. In terms of loneliness, it seems that the hustle and bustle of life has led to many people struggling to carve out time for meaningful connections. How do we help humans feel connected? It starts with each individual recognizing and learning how to be fully present in each moment. When we are present with ourselves and with others, letting go of thoughts of the past or future and putting down our devices, we can form deeper connections. How does one learn to be present? It starts with the breath. Breathing deeply and relaxing the body helps us to let go of life’s worries so we can be in the moment. This can be challenging, but it is possible. Start small and expand the time you are fully present. You’ll be amazed at the changes that occur in your life and the lives of those around you.
